Why Riverside Paint Correction Is Worth Doing Right

The Inland Empire sun hits hard. UV exposure, triple-digit summers, and dry desert wind accelerate paint oxidation faster than most climates. By the time your paint looks dull or hazy in direct light, the clear coat has already taken real damage. Washing it again does not fix that.

Swirl marks and random deep scratches do not just look bad, they drop resale value. A buyer inspecting a used vehicle under a light reads oxidized, swirled paint as neglect. Paint correction removes that signal. It gives you a finish that reflects correctly and tells the right story about how the car was kept.

This is also the single best time to apply ceramic coating if you plan to protect your paint long-term. Coating over uncorrected paint locks in the defects permanently. Correction first means the protection goes on a clean foundation, and the result lasts.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontaminate

The vehicle gets a full hand wash followed by an iron fallout treatment and clay bar to strip bonded contaminants from the surface. Paint correction cannot do its job on contaminated paint, this step ensures the machine polish is working on the clear coat, not on rail dust and road grime.

45 to 75 mins
2

Paint Depth and Defect Inspection

We measure clear coat thickness across every panel with a digital paint gauge and map the defects under LED lighting. This tells us exactly how aggressive we can safely cut and which areas need the most attention, no guesswork, no burning through clear coat.

20 to 30 mins
3

Machine Polish by Stage

We work panel by panel with a dual-action or rotary polisher, using the compound and pad combination matched to your tier. Each pass is checked under lighting before moving on. Single-stage moves through once; two-stage cuts then refines; multi-stage repeats until the panel is done.

3 to 10 hours depending on tier and vehicle size
4

Panel Wipe and Residue Removal

After polishing, every panel is wiped with an IPA panel prep solution to remove polish oils and residue. This reveals the true correction result and leaves the surface ready for protection, coating, sealant, or wax can now bond directly to clean clear coat.

30 to 45 mins
5

Final LED Inspection and Walkthrough

We go over the entire vehicle under high-intensity LED lighting with you present. Any remaining defects below the correction limit of the clear coat are pointed out honestly before we finish. You see exactly what was corrected and what the paint now looks like at its best.

Paint Correction FAQ

The cost depends on the size of the vehicle, the condition of the paint, and the number of stages required. We offer Single Stage, Two Stage, and Multi-Stage tiers to match the level of correction your paint actually needs. Get a free quote and we will inspect the paint and give you a straight number before any work starts.
A single-stage correction on a standard sedan typically takes four to six hours. A two-stage correction runs six to eight hours. Multi-stage work on heavily defected or larger vehicles can take a full day or more. We do not rush the process, each panel gets the time it needs.
Correction itself is permanent, the defects removed are gone. What determines how long your paint stays looking that way is how you protect it afterward. Without a coating or sealant, new swirls will return over time through regular washing. Pair the correction with a ceramic coating and the results are protected for years.
Avoid automatic car washes with brushes, they are the number one cause of swirl marks. Use a foam cannon or two-bucket hand wash method, and dry with a clean microfiber. If you added a ceramic coating, follow the coating-specific maintenance schedule we provide. Proper washing habits are what keep the correction looking right long-term.
We stand behind our work. If you have concerns about the quality of the correction after pickup, contact us and we will assess the vehicle. We document the paint condition with photos before and after every job so there is a clear record of what was corrected.
Wax and spray detailers fill in scratches temporarily, the defects are still there, just masked. Polish at a consumer level often does the same. Professional paint correction uses machine polishing with cutting compounds calibrated to your clear coat to physically remove a controlled layer of clear coat and eliminate the defect. The result is structural, not cosmetic filler.
Scratches that sit within the clear coat can be corrected. Scratches that have cut through to the color coat or primer cannot be fully polished out, those require touch-up paint or body repair. During our pre-job inspection we identify which defects are correctable and which are not, so you know exactly what to expect before we start.
Yes, if your paint has visible swirls, scratches, or oxidation. Ceramic coating bonds to the surface and locks in whatever condition the paint is in. Coating over defects seals them in permanently. Correction first means the coating goes on clean, clear paint, and the protection and gloss are both at their best from day one.
